Welcome to UK Maps

In my map shop, I want to present and offer for sale a small, curated selection of historical and contemporary maps, as well as related products.
My focus is on maps of exceptional quality and beauty, which are often very rare. Well-preserved multi-color printing, the design of legends, cartouches, compass roses, and coordinate frames, as well as the choice of typeface, are essential factors for me. I will try to expand the range and themes of cartography.
I am solely responsible for the selection.

To minimize long international transport routes and thus CO₂ emissions, I produce the maps "regionally" with the help of local printing partners. Unless otherwise specified for the respective item, we use archival paper and Giclée printing with 10 or 12 colors.

A side note:
Maps have many positive effects, as they help people with orientation and navigation, and facilitate travel and trade. They also assist in urban planning, environmental protection, and disaster management. Furthermore, they convey geographical knowledge and promote an understanding of spatial relationships. Maps are also important for political and economic decisions, as they enable targeted planning of infrastructure and resources.
However, maps can also have negative effects if they simplify reality and thereby influence perceptions. They can be deliberately used for manipulation or propaganda to support political interests or justify territorial claims. Moreover, maps have been and continue to be used to exercise power and control. The demarcation of borders can cause conflicts, disadvantage, and exclude certain population groups.

Conclusion: Historical maps are therefore not only sources of geographical knowledge but also testimonies to the ideas, power relations, and scientific paradigms of their time of creation. To interpret them correctly, one must consider the historical context and the interests that underpinned their creation.
Contemporary maps are an important tool for orientation, planning, and knowledge transfer. However, they also have the power to influence perceptions and support political interests. They are therefore never completely neutral and have both positive and negative effects. How maps are designed and used can have significant implications for society, politics, and the economy.
