The map "Carta Generale di Affrica" shows a general, non-ecclesiastical overview of the African continent with a dense grid of longitudes and latitudes. The north is the most detailed: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula are named, while the Sahara and large parts of Central Africa are only roughly outlined as "Deserto di Libia" – an expression of the then still unexplored interior of the continent. In the south, an area around Mozambique and southern Africa appears, Madagascar lies isolated in the Indian Ocean. Calligraphic labels frame the seas: "Oceano Atlantico" in the west, "Mare delle Indie" in the east, and "Grande Oceano Australe" in the south. The equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are marked. The map reflects the European state of knowledge about Africa in the mid-19th century, with clearly explored coastal regions and a largely unknown, cartographically only sketchily recorded interior of the continent.

Historical maps show traces of time and use, the intensity and art of which vary depending on the map and its purpose. The offered print is a reproduction.
