The map "Provincia Ecclesiastica di Friburgo nell'Alemagna" shows the southern German ecclesiastical province of Freiburg, embedded between Bavaria in the east, Switzerland in the south, and Austria. It depicts the associated dioceses of Limburg, Fulda, and Mainz in the north, as well as the eponymous Archdiocese of Freiburg in the Grand Duchy of Baden, which stretches as a narrow strip along the Rhine to the Swiss border. To the east lies the Kingdom of Württemberg with the episcopal city of Rottenburg, independently named and set apart. In the north, the Duchy of Nassau and the Duchy of Saxony also appear as adjacent territories. Episcopal sees such as Freiburg, Rottenburg, and Mainz are highlighted with red dots, and numerous smaller places are finely inscribed. Mountain ranges like the Black Forest are represented by hatching, and rivers like the Rhine and Neckar are detailed. Calligraphic marginal inscriptions name the neighboring countries Bavaria, Switzerland, and Austria. The map impressively illustrates the fragmented ecclesiastical structure of Baden and Württemberg in the 19th century and shows how much diocesan boundaries overlapped with the German small states and kingdoms of the time.

Historical maps show traces of time and use, the intensity and nature of which vary depending on the map and its purpose. The offered print is a reproduction.
