The "Circoscrizione delle Province Ecclesiastiche e Diocesi nei Regni di Spagna e Portogallo" shows the entire Iberian Peninsula with its intricate ecclesiastical division into numerous archdioceses and bishoprics, distinguished by color. Spain and Portugal are divided into a dense mosaic of pink, green, beige, yellow, gray, and purple tones, encompassing provinces such as Santiago de Compostela, Braga, Toledo, Zaragoza, Tarragona, Seville, Granada, and Valencia. Bishoprics are marked with red dots, including Madrid, Lisbon, Burgos, Barcelona, and Coimbra. To the right appear the Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza); in the bottom left, two cartouches with the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands, as well as Cape Verde; in the bottom right, another with São Tomé and the colony of Angola – Portuguese overseas territories that were ecclesiastically assigned to the province. Mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees and the Sierra Morena are hatched, and rivers are finely drawn. The map impressively illustrates the complex diocesan structure of the Iberian Peninsula, including its colonial connections.
