The "Circoscrizione delle Provincie Ecclesiastiche nell'America Meridionale" shows the entire South American continent, divided into color-coded ecclesiastical provinces. In the north are Venezuela, New Granada, and Ecuador (shades of brown), followed by Guyana (turquoise) and Peru (violet) on the Pacific coast. The geographically dominant Brazil is in delicate beige, while Bolivia (green) and, in the south, La Plata, Uruguay, and the elongated Chile-Patagonia (pink and yellow) complete the subcontinent. The mighty river systems of the Amazon, Orinoco, and Río de la Plata are finely drawn, as are the Andes along the west coast. Calligraphic inscriptions frame the adjacent seas: "Oceano Atlantico Equinoziale" in the northeast, "Oceano Atlantico Australe" in the southeast, and "Grande Oceano Equinoziale" and "Grande Oceano Australe" along the Pacific coast. The map extends from the Caribbean coast in the north to the Strait of Magellan and the Tierra del Fuego archipelago in the extreme south. Capitals such as Bogotá, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires are marked with small symbols. The clear, high-contrast color separation vividly illustrates the ecclesiastical administrative structure of the South American continent in the 19th century and makes the enormous size of the individual dioceses – especially the Brazilian ones – visible.
