The "Holland and Belgium" map was engraved by G.H. Swanston and published in 1872. With an original size of 42 x 53 cm, it appeared as a plate in an atlas published between 1854 and 1872.
It is a finely executed, printed and hand-coloured atlas map, whose coloured borders facilitate political division and geographical orientation. The style, characteristic of Victorian cartography, combines high precision with decorative design. It depicts the Netherlands and Belgium with their political borders, major cities, rivers, coastlines, and other topographical features.
Highlighted locations include Amsterdam, Brussels, and Antwerp, while the Rhine and Meuse are clearly marked as central waterways. A special reference to the Dutch overseas possessions points to the colonial background of that era and lends the map additional historical significance.

Historical maps show traces of time and use, the intensity and nature of which vary depending on the map and its purpose. The print offered is a reproduction.
