Church Atlas

This collection consists of plates from a 19th-century ecclesiastical-geographical atlas that systematically documents the worldwide organization of the Roman Catholic Church into ecclesiastical provinces ("Provincia Ecclesiastica") and dioceses. Each plate is numbered with Roman numerals, bears an Italian title, and features a hand-colored copperplate engraving or lithographic map of a specific archdiocese and its suffragan sees. The work covers regions on all continents – from European provinces like Cologne to American ones like Mexico, Guatemala, or the Antilles, and even Oceanic-Australian territories like Sydney. Characteristic features include pastel-colored area coloring to delineate individual dioceses, red dots for episcopal sees, calligraphic ocean labeling, and precise representations of rivers and mountains.
This collection is continuously being expanded.
